Establishing an Effective Supervisor-Supervisee Relationship

Nature of Event: Dinner and Panel Presentation/Discussion for Clinical and Academic Faculty Members of the Psychotherapy Program, UBC Department of Psychiatry. Funding for this event is provided by the Department's Strategic Teaching Initiatives Committee.

Moderator: Dr. Rene Weideman

Panelists: Special guest Dr. Walter Stone, Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychiatry, University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine

Description of Panel Presentation / Discussion: A 15-minute videotape of a supervision session will be shown. Panelists will be asked to comment on the effectiveness of the supervision. The audience will also be asked to provide comments and engage in discussion. In addition, panelists will receive, in advance, written descriptions of potentially problematic situations in establishing an effective supervisor-supervisee relationship. Copies of these vignettes will be distributed during the dinner. The moderator will invite the panelists to comment on how the situations could be conceptualized and managed. Again, the audience will be asked to provide comments and engage in discussion. Interaction will be encouraged.

Accreditation: This event has been approved as an accredited group learning activity as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program Section 1 of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The Division of Continuing Medical Education is an organization accredited to sponsor Continuing Medical Education by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
