Time & Place of Event:

  • Thursday May 8, 2003
  • University Golf Club, 5185 University Boulevard, Salon 1 & 2
  • Social hour: 6:00-7:00 pm
    Dinner: 7:00-8:00 pm
Panel Presentation / Discussion: 8:00-9:00 pm

Moderator: Dr. Rene Weideman

Panelists: Dr. Elie Debbane, Dr. Frances Wilt, Dr. Madeleine Tremblay, and special guest Dr. Molyn Leszcz, former Head of the Psychotherapy Program in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.

Description of Panel Presentation / Discussion: Panelists will receive, in advance, written descriptions of vignettes of problematic situations in psychotherapy supervision. Copies of these vignettes will be distributed during the dinner. The moderator will invite panelists to comment on how the situations could be conceptualized and managed. The audience will be involved early and throughout, as the moderator will ask for questions and comments on each vignette in turn, before the next one is introduced. Interaction will be encouraged, with an explicit aim to keep presentations brief, so that less than half of the time is occupied by panelists’ presentations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To clarify key differences between psychotherapy and the process of supervision of psychotherapy.
  2. To enhance skill in overcoming difficulties in the process of providing supervision to psychiatry residents who are trainees in psychotherapy.

Accreditation: This event is approved as an accredited group learning activity as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program Section 1 of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The Division of Continuing Medical Education is an organization accredited to sponsor Continuing Medical Education by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
